A Good Reminder

Just a short (edited) email I wrote to a discouraged friend earlier:

I think the one thing that has gotten me up and running is learning this-
You can’t always depend on people to give you that love and support, and maybe sometimes not even us (even if we’re a stable group of friends). People will let you down eventually, and sometimes we can’t always be there for you, and neither can your [sorority] brothers and sisters…but Philippians 4:13- “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength”

Through Him, and only Him. Jesus will always be my, and your, first love.

The past 2 months for me was falling in love with Jesus all over again and again- and it’s soooo worth it. I only hope you can experience that too, because his love is the kind that’s perfect and lasting. You don’t have to fight that battle yourself, but that can only happen if you give yourself up to God and let Him take care of the rest. But seriously, all things are easier said than done…and if you don’t want to be in that place, you have to discipline yourself to get out of it- and it means continuously controlling those feelings and directing them to better and higher places. I’m working on it right now too, and as much as I still struggle [with those kind of feelings], I push myself to repeat Philippians 4:13 in my mind over and over again. Then I journal, read some devotions on God’s love, turn on some encouraging music KLOVE, and I feel so much better than I was before. If you want to get started on that, then let me know because I want to help you and pray for you too.

Jesus is my first love- he keeps his promises FOREVER, and he’s the only one who has walked beside me throughout ALL points in my life. People will come and go, but He will never forsake you…We say these things all the time in church, but actually realizing it has made all the difference.
